Sunrisers Hyderabad have failed to make it big in the last few editions of the Indian Premier League. While the Sunrisers Eastern Cape franchise has won back-to-back championships in SA20, the SRH team of IPL has not even qualified for the playoffs after the 2020 edition.
With the aim of making to the knockout round this year, SRH have assembled a stellar group of players. The overseas department of Hyderabad features big names like Pat Cummins, Travis Head, Heinrich Klaasen, Wanindu Hasaranga, Fazalhaq Farooqi, Glenn Phillips, Aiden Markram and others.
It is likely that the Hyderabad-based franchise will opt for a foreign captain, but they may prefer having an Indian vice-captain as well. Here’s a look at the three players who can be the deputy skipper of Sunrisers Hyderabad.
1. Bhuvneshwar Kumar can be vice-captain of Sunrisers Hyderabad
The favorite for this role is Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who has been with the Orange Army for a long time now. Kumar has not only been the spearhead of SRH’s pace attack, but he has also captained Hyderabad on a few occasions. It doesn’t matter if Aiden Markram or Pat Cummins is the captain, but Kumar can be a great option for vice-captain.
2. Mayank Agarwal
Mayank Agarwal joined SRH last season. He had an ordinary tournament with the bat, but Agarwal has received one more chance to prove himself in the orange jersey. Considering how well Agarwal has done as a leader for Karnataka, he can be the deputy captain of SRH.
3. Abhishek Sharma
If SRH wish to groom an Indian skipper for the future, they can think of appointing Abhishek Sharma as the vice-captain. Although Sharma is in the middle of a controversy now, he should be free of it by IPL 2024. A youngster like him can serve SRH for the years to come.
