The reverse countdown to Champions Trophy 2025 has started. There will be three group stage matches for each team in this mega event, followed by the semifinals and final. Pakistan is the official host for this tournament, but the Indian team will play its matches in Dubai.
Speaking of the Indian team, the BCCI should announce the squad for the Champions Trophy 2025 tournament soon. Team India played only three ODIs in 2024, where they lost two and tied one. Before that, India finished runners-up in 2023 World Cup, won Asia Cup 2023 and won the away series against South Africa as well.
India’s squad for Champions Trophy should be more or less the same as the 2023 World Cup team, but here are three players who might miss out.
1. Ishan Kishan might not be selected for Champions Trophy 2025
Ishan Kishan was the backup wicketkeeper and backup opener for India in the 2023 World Cup. The southpaw did a decent job whenever he got a chance to play, but he was dropped from the team when Shubman Gill returned.
KL Rahul was the primary wicketkeeper of the team, with Rohit Sharma and Gill being the openers. This year, Rishabh Pant might replace Kishan in the squad as the backup wicketkeeper.
2. Prasidh Krishna
Express fast bowler Prasidh Krishna joined the Indian squad as an injury replacement for Hardik Pandya in the 2023 World Cup. Pandya has recovered now and is available for selection for the Champions Trophy. Hence, there will be no place for Krishna in the team.
3. Suryakumar Yadav
The Indian team management has decided to move on from Suryakumar Yadav after his disastrous performance in the 2023 World Cup Final against Australia. Yadav had a chance to take India’s total past 250, but he did not have any intent in the middle, resulting in India’s defeat. It is unlikely Yadav will ever play an ODI again for India.
