Teams such as CSK and Rajasthan Royals are doing a good job with their replacement signings. Some of these players are long-term investments for the side. Here, we take a look at the list of three injury replacements who could be released after the ongoing IPL 2025.
IPL 2025 Mega Auctions were not good for a few teams. However, with the option to replace injured cricketers, some teams are trying to make amends. That said, a few cricketers were signed purely as injury replacements, as well.
1) Dasun Shanaka
Dasun Shanaka was a surprise signing by the Gujarat Titans. GT needed a pure batter and also not someone who is not in great form at the international level. Nevertheless, GT will look to retain Glenn Phillips and find another option in the market in the next auctions. Hence, they might release Shanaka.
2) Mayank Agarwal is one of the injury replacements who could be released after IPL 2025
Considering RCB needed a left-hander, it was a surprise that they signed Mayank as Devdutt Padikkal’s replacement. The idea could be that he could be a ready starter, something that might not happen with an uncapped name. That said, it is unlikely that Mayank will stay with RCB unless he performs really well in the upcoming games.
3) Mujeeb Ur Rahman
The Afghan got a few games at the beginning of IPL. However, he was not impressive. Hence, he could be released. Also, Allah Ghazanfar is someone MI has an eye on for the future. Since MI does not have extra overseas slots, they will have to release Mujeeb so that they could retain Allah. Anyways, Mumbai does not need a powerplay spinner because they already have three good pacers for the powerplay phase.
