Gautam Gambhir has been officially announced as the new head coach of the Indian men’s cricket team. The former Indian batter recently had a successful stint as the mentor of Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2024, where KKR became the champions.
Unfortunately for KKR, Gambhir will have to vacate the spot now because of the offer from the Indian cricket team. However, the promotion of Gautam Gambhir could result in the promotion of the KKR players as well because the ex-mentor of the franchise may want some players from the champion squad in the main Indian team. 1. Gautam Gambhir may give another chance to Nitish Rana
Left-handed batter Nitish Rana got a chance to play for India in the away series against Sri Lanka in 2021. He could not impress much, and since then, he has been away from the team.
Rana has continued to impress in the IPL. He provides a left-hand batting option in the middle-order, and some overs of spin in the middle. Gambhir would love to have him in India’s team.
2. Varun CV
Just a few days back, Varun CV posted on Instagram that one of the reasons why he is not in the Indian team is that he does have a paid PR. Gambhir is someone who values performances more than PR, and since Varun was among the best bowlers in the IPL, the mystery spinner will return to the Indian team sooner rather than later.
3. Venkatesh Iyer
Venkatesh Iyer has been a clutch player for Kolkata Knight Riders. Although his bowling has not been that impressive, Iyer has stood up and delivered the goods in the batting unit, especially in the pressure situations. Gambhir was a clutch player himself, which is why, he might give one more chance to Iyer to prove himself in the blue jersey.
