As per the current contract, Rahul Dravid’s tenure will end in November 2023 after ODI WC 2023. The decision to extend this will firmly depend on India’s performance in ODI WC. Hence, Rahul could completely put his focus on this. Meanwhile, India must also start preparing for the T20 WC in 2024. A new gen of players could be coming through. It would be best if India has a specialist T20 Head Coach from now itself. This candidate could also be an option in case BCCI does not extend Dravid’s stay after ODI WC 2023. On that note, here, we take a look at three options if India has to appoint a seperate T20 Head Coach to prepare for the 2024 T20 World Cup.
1) Tom Moody
Tom Moody’s approach might ruffle a few feathers but he has a good success rate. He has also helped SRH to do well and win trophies even when they did not have a lot of superstars in the setup. India needs a strategic way forward in T20s in line with the way that the game is played in the current era. To start with, if given only the reins for the T20 format, there would be more focus and attention by the concerned parties.
2) MS Dhoni
MS Dhoni is one of the options if India has to appoint a seperate T20 Head Coach to prepare for the 2024 T20 World Cup. Of course, this depends a lot on MSD’s relationship with CSK going forward. However, he is India’s best mind for this format and India would benefit greatly from having his services. Therefore, he is on this list.
3) Justin Langer
Justin Langer is currently without an assignment. He has won the T20 World Cup in the past and has the knowledge to do well in this format. He can also be an option for Team India across formats if Rahul Dravid does not intend to stay for long. This move would be a bold one but could give some positive results in the future.
