Due to the Impact Role, teams can now afford to use players in specific phases alone. Here, we take a look at the list of three pacers who may not bowl beyond the powerplay in IPL 2024.
It is a skill to use the new ball well in the powerplay. Some players could practise this alone, making them effective bowlers only for the first six overs in an inning.
1) Mukesh Choudhary
Mukesh Choudhary missed IPL 2023 but he is all set to feature in IPL 2024. Now that CSK has hired Shardul Thakur, CSK’s middle-overs are sorted, especially with the availability of Tushar Deshpande, as well. Hence, we might not see Mukesh bowl beyond the six overs. Of course, if he does well, MS Dhoni might, as well, use him for four overs on the trot.
2) Shivam Mavi might bowl only in the powerplay in IPL 2024
Shivam Mavi is one of the pacers who may not bowl beyond the powerplay in IPL 2024. LSG has good bowlers such as Yash Thakur, Naveen-Ul-Haq and Shamar Joseph for the middle overs and the death. However, they need a good partner for Mohsin Khan in the powerplay. Shivam Mavi is a terrific acquisition in this regard for the side.
3) Ishant Sharma
Mukesh Kumar and Khaleel Ahmed will form the core of the Indian pace unit. Since both these bowlers can operate at different phases, DC might use Ishant Sharma only for the powerplay. He did well for the team last season. Ishant will be hoping to deliver again in IPL 2024 because this could guarantee him a few more years of IPL cricket.
