CPL 2024 has started in the West Indies. The Caribbean Premier League is the number one T20 tournament in the West Indies, with the tagline of the tournament stating that the sport of cricket is played louder in those regions. The feeling is like that of a party, and fans enjoy the matches to the fullest.
Talking about the CPL, there are six franchises in the tournament, namely Trinbago Knight Riders, Antigua and Barbuda Falcons, Barbados Royals, Guyana Amazon Warriors, St Kitts and Nevis Patriots and St Lucia Kings. While there is a lot of new talent coming up in the Caribbean, this league also gives a platform for the older players to showcase their talents.
There are three players aged more than 40, who are playing in CPL 2024. Here’s a list of the three names.
1. Dwayne Bravo will retire from CPL after the 2024 season
Former West Indies all-rounder Dwayne Bravo retired from international cricket long back, but he is still active in the T20 leagues. He has confirmed that the ongoing CPL season will be his last. Currently, he is a member of the Trinbago Knight Riders team, which is co-owned by Bollywood Superstar Shah Rukh Khan.
2. Imran Tahir
Imran Tahir made history by leading the Guyana Amazon Warriors to the CPL championship in 2023. At the age of 44, Tahir led the Warriors from the front and helped them win their first championship. Unsurprisingly, the Warriors have retained him. He is 45 years old now, but the South African leg-spinner continues to be one of the most passionate cricketers in the world.
3. Faf du Plessis
Another South African cricketer to feature on the list is Faf du Plessis. He plays for the St Lucia Kings team in CPL, which is the sister franchise of IPL team Punjab Kings, co-owned by Bollywood actress Preity Zinta. Faf has been a top performer in leagues across the world. In 2022, he scored a fantastic century for the St Lucia Kings, and the team will have high hopes from their 40-year-old South African star this year as well.
