Rajasthan Royals had a forgettable IPL season in 2023. They had the strongest squad on paper, but Sanju Samson and co. could not qualify for the playoffs. Fans had high hopes from RR because they finished runners-up in the IPL 2022 season.
However, despite beating the eventual champions Chennai Super Kings twice in the group stage, RR could not finish in the Top 4. Rajasthan Royals will likely release their star all-rounder Jason Holder, who leaked runs at an economy rate of 9.96 and scored only 12 runs in eight matches last season. Here are four players whom RR can target in his place.
1. Rajasthan Royals can target Mohammad Amir
Pakistan’s former left-arm fast bowler Mohammad Amir has shifted to the United Kingdom. As per a report, he will soon get a British passport, which will make him eligible to play in the Indian Premier League. Amir played for RR-owned Barbados Royals in CPL. Perhaps, they can sign him in IPL as well.
2. Rajasthan Royals can target Chamika Karunaratne
Sri Lankan all-rounder Chamika Karunaratne is a decent hitter of the ball and can bowl medium-fast pace as well. He was with KKR in 2022 but did not get a game. RR can try him out as an all-rounder in the playing XI.
3. Keemo Paul
Caribbean big-hitter Keemo Paul can bowl pace as well. He was a game-changer for the Delhi Capitals in the 2019 season. Paul can be an impact player in T20s, which is why RR should think of signing him for the next season.
4. Ruben Trumpelmann
Not many fans would know about Ruben Trumpelmann, but he is a talented left-arm fast bowler from Namibia. He impressed in the T20 World Cup 2021. Trumpelmann can be an asset for RR just like Joshua Little for Gujarat Titans. He can also be a great backup for Trent Boult if the Kiwi pacer is injured.
