Brendon McCullum is set to take over as the Head Coach of England white-ball squads from January 2025. Here, we take a look at the list of three players Brendon McCullum might drop from white-ball squads as Head Coach.
Bazz has already done a great job as the red-ball coach. He will now have better control over the side and the management will hope that the success will also come in the white-ball formats.
1) Joe Root
Joe Root is just unstoppable in Tests. It may not be a great idea to have him in ODIs, as well. It is a workload issue for him and also, his skills may not be of great use in the current ODI philosophy. Instead, Root can focus on Tests. He has many records left to break. If he is in just one format, he can easily do that.
2) Moeen Ali could be dropped under McCullum as the Head Coach
Moeen Ali is one of the players Brendon McCullum might drop from white-ball squads as Head Coach. Having already been dropped from the Australia series, it is now clear that Moeen Ali might not get a chance in the further tournaments. After Bazz takes over, he might even make it official. Moeen has been very inconsistent and considering his age, England may not be able to afford a place in the XI for him.
3) Chris Woakes
The pacer is becoming too one-dimensional and that may not help England in the long-run. Barring the powerplay, Woakes is not a reliable candidate in the other phases. With the bat, he only offers solidity and nothing more. Hence, McCullum could choose a younger pacer to replace him and bring something different to the squad.
