Having seen a lot of players closely, Ponting could target a few of the players from the Hobart squad. Since Ponting is likely to have a similar philosophy in IPL, the players needed to achieve it could also be the same.
1) Tim David is one of the players Ponting might sign for PBKS
Tim David may not have a future at Mumbai Indians. The player has failed to do his job well. With him going under the hammer, there could be a few teams that might want him. Ricky Ponting’s Punjab Kings could be one of them. Firstly, David could solve the finishing problems for Punjab Kings, especially when partnered with someone like Shashank Singh. Next up, Ponting knows the player very well and could fit his template.
2) Nikhil Chaudhary
Nikhil Chaudhary was a surprise package in the recent BBL. While he has not fired after that, there could be quite a few reasons why PBKS could target the man. One of the main reasons is that Nikhil is originally from Punjab and he has represented the state at various age-group levels. Hence, Ponting could be prompted by PBKS to target Nikhil.
3) Nathan Ellis is already at Punjab Kings
Nathan Ellis is already at PBKS. However, he may not be retained. In IPL, he may not be worth the retention amount. However, he could be on the target list for Punjab Kings again. Nathan Ellis is the skipper of the Hobart Hurricanes squad. Ponting backs him and Ellis is also a fine T20 pacer. Hence, it makes sense for the franchise to use the RTM or sign him again.
