Pakistan cricket team has disappointed its fans with its performance in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2022 tournament in Australia. The Men in Green were placed in Group 2 along with India, South Africa, Bangladesh, Zimbabwe and the Netherlands.

Last year, Pakistan found themselves in a similar group, and they topped the points table by winning all five of their group stage matches against India, New Zealand, Afghanistan, Scotland and Namibia. However, this year, they are in the bottom two of the standings right now with two losses in two matches. Here’s what captain Babar Azam said after his team lost against Zimbabwe by one run:

“We’re not using the new ball that well, we finished really well but we let Zimbabwe get away to score 10 extra runs. Will sit together and discuss mistakes and come back harder in the next match.”

The Asia Cup 2022 runners-up have received criticism for their team selection. Here are three players from their last year’s squad who could have helped them perform better in Australia.

    1. Pakistan missed Shoaib Malik in T20 World Cup 2022

A veteran like Shoaib Malik could have anchored the run-chase to perfection against the Zimbabwean cricket team. He has played a lot of cricket on the bouncy wickets of Australia. So that experience would have been handy as well. Plus, Malik’s off-spin bowling could have given variety to the team.

    2. Sarfaraz Ahmed

Another seasoned campaigner who could have helped the team a lot in crunch situations is Sarfaraz Ahmed. However, the former Pakistan skipper is not in the squad this year.

    3. Mohammad Hafeez

Mohammad Hafeez was in prime form last year and scored heaps of runs in T20I cricket. He could contribute to the bowling unit as well. However, he announced retirement and now works as a cricket expert.
