Asia Cup 2023 is currently underway in Pakistan and Sri Lanka. The Indian cricket team is the favorite to win this mega event, and they had named a 17-man squad for this continental championship. The Men in Blue have now announced their ICC World Cup squad as well. It was the last day to announce the squad, and the Indian selectors have met the deadline.

Speaking of Asia Cup 2023, there was no upper limit on the number of players in the squad for the continental championship. Hence, the Indian team sent 18 players – 17 in the main squad and 1 as a backup – to Sri Lanka. Now, in World Cup, there is an upper limit on 15. Hence, the following three names unluckily missed out.

    1. Tilak Varma was in Asia Cup 2023 squad

Uncapped ODI batter Tilak Varma received a chance to be a part of the Asia Cup squad. However, he is yet to make his debut. It is confusing why Varma was sent to Sri Lanka because he is also a part of the Indian T20I squad for Asian Games 2023.

Varma will now head to China, where he will link up with the rest of the Indian squad. Ruturaj Gaikwad will lead India in the Asian Games cricket event.

    2. Sanju Samson

Sanju Samson was present as a backup wicketkeeper option in the list of reserves for the Indian team at the Asia Cup. Chief selector Ajit Agarkar said that KL Rahul was injured, which is why they kept Samson in the reserves. Samson has been ignored for the World Cup now.

    3. Prasidh Krishna

Fast bowler Prasidh Krishna made his return to international cricket after a long time in Ireland. He was named in the Asia Cup squad soon after. However, the selectors have preferred other pace bowlers over Krishna for the mega event.
