On Wednesday, BCCI announced the squads for the upcoming Duleep Trophy. 4 teams will be a part of the event. Here, we take a look at the list of three players unlucky to miss out on captaincy for the Duleep Trophy 2024.
Shubman Gill, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Abhimanyu Easwaran and Shreyas Iyer will be the four captains for this series. Hence, some players would be hard done by not getting captaincy.
1) KL Rahul
KL Rahul will play under the captaincy of Shubman Gill for Team A in Duleep Trophy 2024. For a player of his experience and calibre, he should have ideally been leading a side. Considering he led India not long ago, KL Rahul deserved the opportunity to be a captain. However, that did not happen. This further proves that if KL does not do well in the coming tournaments, he could be out of the team.
2) Rishabh Pant is not a captain in Duleep Trophy 2024
Rishabh Pant is one of the players unlucky to miss out on captaincy for the Duleep Trophy 2024. Yes, it is a comeback form in the red-ball formats but it needs to be noted that he is already highly experienced in this format. Before his accident, he was one of the captaincy candidates for Team India. Therefore, if he had the chance to captain a side, he could have added better value to his case.
3) Ravindra Jadeja
With respect to age and relevance to Team India, Jadeja is the senior-most player in the Duleep Trophy 2024. While there are doubts on his career in the ODI format, it would have been a great booster had Jaddu got captaincy. It would have helped him gain confidence ahead of a challenging Test season. Hence, he is on this list.
