On Saturday, the Indian Team for the upcoming Tour of Australia was picked. The ODI series marks the return of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. Here, we take a look at the list of three players unlucky to miss the ODI squad for the Australia series.
India’s ODI squad: Shubman Gill (Captain), Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer (VC), Axar Patel, KL Rahul (WK), Nitish Kumar Reddy, Washington Sundar, Kuldeep Yadav, Harshit Rana, Mohammed Siraj, Arshdeep Singh, Prasidh Krishna, Dhruv Jurel (WK), Yashasvi Jaiswal.
1) Mohammed Shami
Shami is one of the best ODI pacers that India has seen. Yes, he has issues with fitness, but like Rohit and Virat, he also deserves another chance in the format. Especially in Australia and since Bumrah is being rested for ODIs, Shami would have been ideal for the squad.
2) Sanju Samson is one of the players unlucky to miss the ODI squad for the Australia series
With Rishabh Pant injured, Sanju Samson could have been the backup to KL Rahul. However, Sanju is not a part of the ODI squad. For someone who has stayed long on the fringes, it is a bit unlucky. Dhruv Jurel will be the backup keeper in the ODI squad.
3) Varun Chakaravarthy
Varun did well in the ICC 2025 Champions Trophy. Yes, Australia might not need extra spinners, but he is someone who could have been efficient against the aggressive Australia batters. Hence, he is a bit unlucky here.
