Royal Challengers Bengaluru raised many eyebrows with their strategy at the mega auction. Many die-hard fans of the RCB franchise think that the management could have done a better job for the IPL 2025 season. One of the biggest surprises of the auction was that RCB did not use the RTM card for Glenn Maxwell, Mohammed Siraj and Will Jacks.
There was also a need for a new captain for RCB in IPL 2025 because Faf du Plessis got released, and then, the Delhi Capitals signed du Plessis for 2 crore at the auction. RCB needs to name a new skipper. Team management member Mo Bobat clarified that the backroom staff is yet to decide who will lead the team in IPL 2025.
However, it is likely that the captain of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru team will be one of the following three players only.
1. Krunal Pandya is the likeliest choice for RCB captain in IPL 2025
Considering that Virat Kohli stepped down as captain at the end of IPL 2021 by his own desire, he might want to stay away from leadership unless it becomes necessary for him to do it. In that case, Krunal Pandya emerges as the best option to lead RCB. He has done a fine job as captain of Lucknow Super Giants and Baroda in the past, plus he is also guaranteed a place in the playing XI.
2. Virat Kohli
In case the team management is able to convince Virat Kohli to lead the Royal Challengers Bengaluru team once again, there will not be a better option than him. Virat still has unfinished business as captain, and he did a fine job as the RCB captain when Faf du Plessis was unavailable in 2023.
3. Bhuvneshwar Kumar
If RCB wish to go with a calm and experienced player as their captain for the IPL 2025 season, then pace bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar can be a great choice. Kumar has captained the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the past. He can receive help from Virat Kohli in the leadership group, but Kumar has been an injury-prone player, which is why RCB will have to think a lot before naming him as captain.
