India’s 2023 World Cup squad has come out. The squad does not feature any major surprises, but quite a few fans felt that there could have been better choices made with regards to some departments as some of the experienced names missed out on a place in the team.
Before discussing further, here’s a look at the Indian squad that has been announced for the 2023 edition of the mega event:
Rohit Sharma (Captain), Hardik Pandya (Vice-captain), Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, Ishan Kishan, KL Rahul, Suryakumar Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Shardul Thakur, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohd. Shami, Mohd. Siraj, Kuldeep Yadav.
In the past also, there have been injury issues, forcing the team management to name replacements in the squad. Here’s a list of the three potential injury replacements if needed.
1. Tilak Varma can be a backup option for 2023 World Cup
Tilak Varma was present in the Indian squad for Asia Cup 2023. It shows that the Indian team management rates him highly. In case a batter is unavailable due to any reason during the World Cup, the team management can think of drafting Tilak into the squad.
2. Sanju Samson
Sanju Samson will definitely be the reserve wicketkeeper option for the mega event. Samson was the reserve keeper in the Asia Cup 2023 as well. If KL Rahul or Ishan Kishan miss, then Samson can be an option for the replacement.
3. Prasidh Krishna
Prasidh Krishna can be the reserve fast bowler as an injury replacement. The right-arm pacer has a decent record in ODI cricket, and he can be selected as a replacement if the team management thinks a fast bowler is needed.
