Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell might be ruled out of the ongoing 2023 World Cup because of a freak concussion incident which happened during the Jesse Ryder cup. The Australian players had a one-week break after their 2023 World Cup match against New Zealand. Hence, they organized a friendly golf tournament, named the Jesse Ryder cup.

According to a report by Code Sports, Glenn Maxwell fell off the back of a golf cart during the tournament, which is why he has been ruled out of the upcoming match against England. There is a chance of him being ruled out of the remainder of the competition as well. In case he is ruled out, here are three players who can replace him in Australia’s squad.

    1. Nathan Lyon can replace Glenn Maxwell

Nathan Lyon is one of the most experienced spinners in the world. He surprisingly missed out on a place in Australia’s World Cup squad, but he was not 100% fit at the time of the selection. Lyon has recovered now, and he even sent a text message to Andrew McDonald when Ashton Agar was ruled out.

“I sent Andrew McDonald a text message the other day when I saw Ashton Agar was ruled out. I said, ‘Just to let you know, I’m back bowling 10 overs, I’m right to go, 100 per cent’. If that happened, I’d do anything to go over and play the World Cup,” Lyon said.

    2. Tim David

All-rounder Tim David was in fantastic form during the IPL season for the Mumbai Indians. With Australia set to play a league match in Mumbai and probably semifinal as well, they can ask Tim David to join the squad as a last-minute replacement for Maxwell.

    3. Matthew Kuhnemann

Glenn regularly bowled off-spin for Australia in the Indian conditions, so if needed, they can call the rookie spinner Matthew Kuhnemann, who made his ODI debut last year only. He also played in the ICC World Test Championship series against India earlier this year for Australia.
