The Indian cricket team played many T20I series last year. Keeping the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 in mind, the BCCI planned to conduct T20I series between the Indian cricket team and almost every top team of the world. However, the preparation did not help the Indian team much as they failed to progress to the finals of both ICC T20 World Cup 2022 and even Asia Cup 2022.

One of the main reasons behind it was the constant chopping and changing which happened in the playing XI of the Men in Blue during the series. Some players would take breaks, while some would be injured. There were some new captains as well. Speaking of 2022 alone, four different cricketers captained the Indian side.

Looking at India’s T20I history, there have been three such players who got a chance to lead the Indian T20I team in only one series. Here is a list of those three players.

    1. Ajinkya Rahane captained India in T20I series vs. Zimbabwe, 2015

Ajinkya Rahane is no longer a part of the Indian team in any of the three formats. The right-handed batter was an integral part of India’s leadership group a few years back. When MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli were unavailable for the 2015 Zimbabwe tour, Rahane led a second-string Indian team. The two-match series ended in a 1-1 draw.

    2. Rishabh Pant captained India in T20I series vs. South Africa, 2022

Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul missed the series against South Africa last June. As a result, the BCCI named Rishabh Pant as the captain for that series. Pant led the Indian team to a 2-2 draw in the five-match series.

    3. Shikhar Dhawan vs. Sri Lanka, 2021

Shikhar Dhawan has played the skipper’s role in many ODI matches, but he did so in only one T20I series. It was against Sri Lanka two years ago, where the Indian team lost by 1-2.
