Pakistan is struggling in the 2023 ODI World Cup. A reason for this is also the team selection for the event. Here, we take a look at three players who could have helped Pakistan had they been picked for the World Cup.
Pakistan has a lot of talent in the country. If they had a better analysis of the strengths and weaknesses of the squad, they might have been in better shape now.
1) Shan Masood
Shan Masood was the vice-captain of the side not long ago. Yes, he might not have done very well with the bat in recent months but Shan is a top cricketer. He also has decent experience and his attributes might have helped the Pakistanis have some sense of calm in the batting order. The intent of the batters has been the main issue for Pakistan. Shan Masood’s calmness might have helped the other batters to express themselves more freely.
2) Abrar Ahmed
Abrar Ahmed is one of the players who could have helped Pakistan had they been picked for the World Cup. He has not played a lot of ODI cricket. However, he is a good spinner and as seen in Tests, batters could find it hard to pick him. Hence, Pakistan should have picked him, especially with the likes of Shadab Khan and Mohammad Nawaz struggling even before the competition.
3) Imad Wasim
It is mainly due to non-cricketing reasons that Imad Wasim was not picked. He was in superb form in the CPL and would have been a fine addition to the squad. He is someone who can win games on his own with the bat and can also provide 10 overs every game. This mark of the cricketer would have been useful on the Indian pitches. Hence, he is also on the list.
