International cricket is no longer the top priority of many cricketers. There was a time when players would sacrifice a lot and play for the nation. However, with the growth of T20 leagues and the amount of money that players can make in these tournaments, the cricketers are no longer preferring their international matches.

Not all players are the same, but quite a few names decided to hang up their boots early in international cricket so that they could play more T20 leagues in their careers. A few others decided to retire from cricket early because they did not see a big future for themselves despite making it to the national team.

In this listicle today, we will look at three such players who received their maiden international cap after the year 2015 but have already retired in the year 2023.

    1. South Africa’s international star Dwaine Pretorius

All-rounder Dwaine Pretorius surprised the cricket world when he decided to end his career for South Africa at the age of 33 earlier this year. Pretorius had only made his debut in 2016 and had done a great job for the Proteas. However, he ended his career to focus on T20 leagues.

    2. Theunis de Bruyn, South Africa

One more player from the South African cricket team to appear on the list is the team’s former batter Theunis de Bruyn, who debuted in 2017. He played 13 Test matches and two T20Is for the nation before ending his career at the age of 30. It is unclear why de Bruyn made a big decision because he is not that big a name in T20 leagues yet.

    3. Joe Mennie, Australia

Not many cricket fans would remember but Joe Mennie made his debut for Australia in 2016. He played one Test and a couple of ODIs for the Aussies before being dropped. Mennie retired in 2021 and moved to the UK.
