BCCI organized a meeting of all 10 IPL franchises to discuss the rules for the next cycle of the league. A mega auction was initially planned for the next season, but most of the franchises are against the idea of having a mega auction.
Some teams even agreed for it, but they want the number of retentions to be increased. A few teams even want the board to bring back the RTM rule, which helps the teams to buy back their players at their auction price.
Amid all this, a new report has emerged claiming that IPL teams want such players to be banned who skipped a season due to a reason which could have been avoided. Here’s a list of three players who might get banned from BCCI if this rule gets approved.
1. BCCI might ban Wanindu Hasaranga from IPL
Wanindu Hasaranga can become the first player to be banned under this rule. Last year, Sunrisers Hyderabad secured his services for just 1.5 crore. His previous salary was more than 10 crore.
SRH owners were very upset when Hasaranga did not show up to play a single game, citing injury issues as the reason. If Hasaranga does this again, he might be banned from the league.
2. Mark Wood
This might seem a little controversial, but Mark Wood has a habit of pulling out from the IPL. He played only a few games for LSG in 2023 and in 2024, ECB pulled him out just before the tournament started. Since the board took Wood’s name out, it remains to be seen if the fast bowler receives a ban.
3. Jason Roy
Jason Roy has probably pulled out of the most number of IPL seasons. He pulled out of Delhi Capitals in 2020, Gujarat Titans in 2022 and Kolkata Knight Riders in 2024. Interestingly, all three teams played the final that season, with GT and KKR even becoming champions. Thus, it has been a lucky charm for the teams.
