India suffered a six-wicket defeat in the 2023 ODI World Cup Final against Australia last night at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium. It was a heartbreaking moment for a billion Indian fans who have been waiting for the Men in Blue to lift an ICC trophy since the Champions Trophy 2013.
Considering that 10 years have passed since the Indian team last won a tournament, the BCCI should think of making some big changes to the team. There is a possibility of some players losing their spot in the team as well and never coming back. Here are three such players.
1. Rohit Sharma might not play for India in ODI cricket again
Rohit Sharma won everyone’s hearts with his stupendous batting performances in the 50-over World Cup in India. He was one of the biggest match-winners for the team. However, he is 36 years old now, and the next World Cup is in 2027. Sharma might think of leaving the ODI format to play T20Is and Tests for the next few years.
2. Ravichandran Ashwin
Ravichandran Ashwin was surprisingly recalled to the Indian squad for the 2023 World Cup. However, the team management benched him for the majority of the tournament.
Even in the big final, they went with Suryakumar Yadav over Ashwin. It looks like Ashwin has played his last ODI, and now Washington Sundar may take his place.
3. Suryakumar Yadav
Suryakumar Yadav received probably the highest backing any Indian player has received in recent times. Still, he could not make it count and played a disappointing knock of 18 runs at a strike rate of 64 in the final against Australia. With so many talented batters waiting in line, Yadav may not get another chance in ODIs now.
