3 players who played in U-19 Asia Cup 2021 and are playing Asia Cup at senior level in 2022

Asia Cup 2022 is underway right now, with six teams participating in the competition. Not many fans would know that the Asian Cricket Council also organizes an U-19 Asia Cup tournament once every two years. The last one happened in the year 2021, with India U-19s winning the trophy under the captaincy of Yash Dhull.

Apart from India, the teams that participated in that U-19 Asia Cup tournament were Kuwait, UAE, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Afghanistan and Bangladesh. Except Nepal, all other teams were in the Asia Cup 2022 Qualifiers or main tournament. Three players who participated in the U-19 tournament last year played in the main tournament this year. Here’s a list of those three names.

1. Noor Ahmad is a part of Afghanistan squad for Asia Cup 2022

Afghanistan’s spin bowler Noor Ahmad was a part of the Afghanistan U-19 team that played in the 2021 U-19 tournament last year. He got to play against India U-19s and Pakistan U-19s in that competition.

Ahmad also earned a contract from IPL team Gujarat Titans and won IPL 2022 with the franchise. In 2022, he is a member of the Afghanistan team for the ongoing tournament in the UAE.

2. Matheesha Pathirana is a part of Sri Lanka squad for Asia Cup 2022

Nicknamed as Junior Malinga, Matheesha Pathirana played for the Sri Lankan U-19s in the 2020 U-19 World Cup as well as the U-19 Asian tournament which happened in 2021.

Pathirana made his IPL debut for the Chennai Super Kings in a match against the Gujarat Titans earlier this year. He is now playing for Sri Lanka in the Asian tournament.

3. Meet Bhavsar

Kuwait’s team impressed the fans with their performance in the qualifying round of the tournament in Oman. They missed out on a place in the main tournament by a narrow margin. In the U-19 level tourney that happened last year, Meet Bhavsar, who represented Kuwait in the qualifiers this year, played for the U-19 side.
