Australia is one of the most successful nations in the game of cricket. In Tests, as well, the Aussies enjoy a fine history. They regard the Test format highly and follow a fixed template in backing their talents. However, some players were unlucky to just get one game in their careers. Here, we take a look at the list of three popular Australian cricketers who played just 1 Test match in their careers.
It is incredible that a few players did really well in the other formats but just could not make it in the longest format of the game. Their performances in their debut game and competition within the squad did not let them make a big impact in the red-ball format.
1) Callum Ferguson
Callum played 30 ODIs for Australia, and in the initial part of his career, he impressed many. He has a solid technique, and his temperament was also top-notch. Considering he was always consistent at the domestic level, many felt he would get a long rope. However, that never happened.
2) James Faulkner is one of the Australian cricketers who played just 1 Test match
Faulkner is known for many of his iconic performances. He is someone who has also won the Player of the Match in the final of an ODI World Cup. However, his career dropped off massively and at the moment, he is not regular in any of the major T20 leagues. It is also not surprising that he just played 1 Test. James was known for his variations in the shorter formats and this would not work in the longest format of the game. Hence, he could play only 1 Test Match.
3) John Hastings
Back then, John Hastings displayed immense potential for Australia. He toured India and picked up some key wickets, including the likes of Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni. He even earned a gig in the Indian Premier League. However, in the Test arena, although he had the skills, he could just play one game for his country.
