While injuries and serious personal reasons are understandable for a player’s withdrawal, there have been cases of players withdrawing their names even due to a low bid at the auction. Some players even smartly stayed away from mega auctions, so that they could earn big at the mini auction.

As per a report by Cricbuzz, IPL teams may insist BCCI to take action against such players. Here are three ways the organizers can punish such players.

    1. 3 years ban from IPL

The best way to instill fear in the minds of the cricketers is to ban them from the league. If a franchise raises a complaint on a player for withdrawal due to silly reasons and the player is proven guilty, then the player can be banned for the next three seasons of the league.

    2. Player must pay back his salary amount to franchise

If a player does not come to play in the tournament after registering for the auction and being fit at the time of the tournament, then a clause should be there that the player must salary to his franchise and not the other way around. Money is the main motivation for many players, and this rule will stop the unnecessary withdrawals.

    3. Player will have to play at base price of 20 lakhs for next 3 seasons

If a ban might sound too harsh, then the player who withdraws from a franchise at the last moment despite being fit and available, must play at the lowest salary for the next three seasons in the same franchise.

If there are such strict rules and punishments, then there will be almost zero possibility of a player taking the withdrawals lightly again in the league.
