A few credible sites have reported that CSK is seriously considering retaining Sameer Rizvi as an uncapped player along with MS Dhoni. Here, we take a look at the list of three reasons why CSK must not retain Sameer Rizvi as an uncapped player.
While Sameer Rizvi is definitely a talented cricketer, some fans feel that the decision to retain him may not be convincing. We take a look at the possible reasons below:
1) CSK must keep RTM Card options available for other players
If CSK retain Sameer Rizvi, they will lose one RTM Card. CSK will look to hire back players such as Devon Conway, Rachin Ravindra, Tushar Deshpande and may be, even Maheesh Theekshana. Hence, losing an RTM Card for an uncapped player apart from MS Dhoni may not be a great approach. Rather, the team can have more options on the bidding table with more RTM Cards available.
2) Sameer Rizvi can be replaced at CSK if the franchise does not retain him
Sameer Rizvi can be replaced at CSK and this is one of the reasons why CSK must not retain Sameer Rizvi as an uncapped player. While Rizvi is a rare talent, he is not entirely irreplaceable. There are some players in the country who can come to replace him. If CSK does not find the right bid to hire Rizvi, they can target some other talented youngsters such as Arishin Kulkarni or Angkrish Raghuvanshi. Hence, releasing Rizvi is a better choice for now.
3) The franchise should keep the batting order options open
It is still not clear what is the best batting position for Rizvi in the IPL. He can play at No.3 or could operate in Ambati Rayudu’s role at No.5. By retaining Rizvi, CSK must surely give him a batting slot. For instance, they can have him at No.3. Now, the franchise will not focus on this slot in the auctions. If Rizvi fails in IPL 2025, CSK will then be in trouble. These reasons make it a better option to buy the UP lad at the auctions.
