MS Dhoni was retained by CSK ahead of the IPL 2025 mega-auctions and the former CSK captain was retained as an uncapped player. Now that was obviously a steal deal for the Chennai Super Kings but the most obvious question is how can the move benefit them.
Truth be told, MS Dhoni has already entered his twilight, and he is not the same destructor or finisher that he was before. And yet, the franchise, the nation and the fans love him like a god. Here are three reasons why CSK should return the captaincy to MSD ahead of IPL 2025.
#1 This may be his last season
MS Dhoni might be playing his last IPL season and as a kind of honour to the man who has done so much for the team, has guided them to five IPLs, the captaincy can be restored to him.
If there is one thing that MSD is actually getting better at is his ability to steer the team in a much better fashion. So since Dhoni was retained, CSK might just put it to some crazy use.
#2 Can show Ruturaj Gaikwad in person how it is done
Ruturaj Gaikwad picked up the reins of the season last year and more or less did a fairly decent job. CSK were on the cusp of qualifying for the play-offs. However, RCB played spoilsport and that is exactly where Dhoni as a captain could have just flipped the things. This is exactly what Ruturaj Gaikwad needs to learn and no one better than MSD to show him the path.
#3 Give him an opportunity to guide his team to the sixth IPL title
Considering the winning opportunity that CSK may conjure, it can be a great chance to immortalize MSD as a captain who has solely guided a franchise to five IPL titles so far and might just be another one on the way. If MSD grabs the sixth title then that can very well put him beyond the league of others and immortalize as the captain who carved history in his own unique fashion.
