Cameron Green has been a big name across all formats of the game. Ahead of last year’s IPL, RCB bought him from Mumbai Indians for an all-cash trade of INR 17 crore. From the 13 matches that Green played for RCB, he blasted 255 runs at a strike rate of 143.26 and an average of 31.88.
With the auction around the corner, one of the key questions is that will RCB decide to keep him or part ways with him?
Despite contrasting numbers for RCB than the one season he played for MI, he still was highly rated by the RCB management and Andy Flower. But is that enough for the franchise to splurge double-figures for the big man? Here are three reasons why retaining Cameron Green may be a wrong move for RCB.
#1 Dipping numbers
Ideally, one prefers a steep ascent in the overall statistics across two seasons of the tournament that one would play. But Green’s numbers dropped staggeringly. He was almost 200 runs short in the latest season of IPL. Whether it is due to the change of his position or the kind of pressure that RCB came in with, wasn’t favourable for the hard-hitting Aussie opener.
#2 Too big of an amount
INR 17 crore is already a massive amount that RCB is shelling out for the big man. With the mega-auction coming up, the franchise might reconsider the purse and can also try and swoop more than one foreigner at the same amount which will lead to better composition of the side.
#3 Injury concern
Cameron Green has been struggling with an injury and will be undergoing surgery shortly. However, the duration of his recovery is still unknown and whether he will be a part of the upcoming IPL, that still begs a question or two. With so much uncertainty around the corner, it will always be advisable to let him go and then may be bring him back from the auction.
