At times, the Head Coach has a direct influence on some selections, although the signings make no sense. Here, we take a look at the list of three signings that were not needed but done only because of the Head Coach.

Drilling a philosophy into a side requires players whom the coaches know. Hence, they tend to make signings. For the viewers from the outside, these acquisitions do not make sense.

    1) Tom Curran’s signing was influenced by Head Coach Andy Flower (RCB)

It is well-known that Andy Flower likes batting depth. With the Indian players, he is not able to do that at RCB. Tom Curran is someone who has improved his batting in recent times. Andy has worked with him and it was clear that he influenced the signing. However, at Chinnaswamy, Curran could go for a lot of runs. He might not even get a chance with Lockie Ferguson also in the team.

    2) Ashton Turner – Justin Langer (LSG)

Ashton Turner is one of the signings that were not needed but done only because of the Head Coach. Almost no one expected Ashton Turner to get a chance in the IPL. Yes, he is doing well domestically but he is not even a concrete part of the Australian setup right now. LSG already has QDK, Mayers, Pooran and Stoinis as the overseas batters. Hence, it seems that Langer was the reason behind the Aussie’s selection to LSG.

    3) Chris Woakes – Trevor Bayliss (PBKS)

PBKS already as Kagiso Rabada, Sam Curran and Nathan Ellis. They have Arshdeep Singh and Harshal Patel as well in the pace department. Despite this, they signed Chris Woakes, who had a rough outing in the 2023 ODI World Cup in India. However, it needs to be noted that Bayliss has worked a lot with Woakes. He might have stitched a strategy that we do not know much about. Hence, it clearly feels like that the signing was made by him.
