Kaviya Maran has made a host of suggestions to the BCCI about the next cycle of the IPL. The BCCI initially planned to have a mega auction before the 2025 season, but most of the teams have opposed the mega auction and suggested a mini auction.
While Sunrisers Hyderabad owner Maran is not entirely against the idea of a mega auction, she wants a greater number of retentions via pre-auction retention or RTM cards. As per Cricbuzz, Maran made many suggestions to BCCI about the IPL rules. Here are three rules which BCCI must implement.
1. Kaviya Maran wants player to be banned if he skips IPL due to an avoidable reason
Wanindu Hasaranga skipped IPL 2024 when he received only a 1.5 crore deal from SRH. His previous contract with RCB was worth more than 10 crore. While Hasaranga cited injury as the reason for skipping the league, quite a few felt that he did not come because of the low salary.
“After being selected in the auction, if a player doesn’t come to play the season for any reason apart from injury, he should be banned,” Maran said.
2. 6 players to be retained but no fixed number of pre-auction retention and RTMs
Another magnificent suggestion made by Maran was that the franchises should be free to retain total six players. However, she did not want a fixed cap on the number of pre-auction retained players or RTMs. Kaviya suggested that the total number of retained players should be six, and it doesn’t matter if the franchise uses RTMs or retention to decide it.
3. No cap on overseas players retention
Over the years, there has been a limit on the number of foreign players a team can retain before a mega auction. Maran’s team Sunrisers Hyderabad features many overseas superstars. Thus, she felt that there should be no cap on the overseas players, and the six retentions could be all Indian or all overseas or combination of both, depending on the franchise’s need.
