India will soon participate in the 2022 edition of Asia Cup. This year’s Asia Cup was scheduled to take place in Sri Lanka, but it will take place in the UAE. For the second time in the tournament’s history, it will happen in the T20I format.
The most successful team in Asia Cup history is India. The Men in Blue have won the title for a record seven times, and they ended the last two Asia Cup tournaments as champions. Interestingly, they have an excellent win record against three different Asian nations. Here’s a list of three teams who have faced India but are yet to defeat them at the Asian event.
1. Hong Kong has never defeated India in Asia Cup
Hong Kong have played two matches against India. They were blown away in the 2008 match which happened in Pakistan, but in 2018, Hong Kong almost defeated the Men in Blue in the UAE. In a group stage match, Hong Kong were 174/0 while chasing a 286-run target. India made a comeback and eventually won by 26 runs.
2. Afghanistan has never defeated India in Asia Cup
India and Afghanistan met for the first time in this tournament back in 2014. It was a dead rubber match, where India won by eight wickets. Four years later, India and Afghanistan played in a Super Fours match which ended in a tie. It was MS Dhoni’s last match as the Indian cricket team captain.
3. UAE
United Arab Emirates have been a good host for cricket matches, but their cricket team is not the strongest. UAE made their Asia Cup debut in 2004. Their first match was against India which they lost by 116 runs. 12 years later, UAE battled India in the T20 format. India won that contest by nine wickets.
