3 Teams that can change captains midway if they don’t get a good start to IPL 2024

The 17th edition of the Indian Premier League is just 3–4 weeks away from now. The first game will be played on March 22 between Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Chepauk Stadium in Chennai. All ten teams have made the necessary changes and made some important signings at the IPL 2024 auction.

CSK will be looking to defend their title and make it 6 out of 6. However, it will be a test for some of the IPL captains as well, who didn’t have a great season last time. There are chances that we might see some teams changing their captains midway through the IPL 2024. Here we will talk about three teams that can change captains midway if they don’t start well in the IPL 2024.

    3. Punjab Kings

Veteran Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan joined the Punjab Kings in 2022 and took the captaincy of the team. However, PBKS hasn’t made it to the playoffs under him so far. They are the worst-performing team in the IPL that has made the playoffs only twice in 16 seasons, and the last time they did was in 2014. The franchise is getting out of patience, so if Punjab starts poorly, we might see a change in captain.

    2. Kolkata Knight Riders

Shreyas Iyer joined Kolkata Knight Riders in 2022 and was named the captain of the team after Eoin Morgan. But KKR ended up in 7th place in 2022. Iyer missed the 2023 edition, and Nitish Rana became the captain, and they still finished 7th. The franchise confirmed that Iyer will be led by Iyer in the IPL 2024. They have brought Gautam Gambhir to their coaching staff as well. However, if the start doesn’t go well, we can see a captaincy shift. Nitish, Andre Russell, Sunil Narine are some candidate and not to forget, they have Mitchell Starc as well.

    1. Sunrisers Hyderabad

Aiden Markram joined SRH in 2022 and took over the captaincy in 2023. But SRH has struggled in the last few seasons and finished last in 2022. Though Markram has led Sunrisers Eastern Cape to two back-to-back titles, IPL is a whole different level. And now, SRH has also brought World Cup 2023-winning captain Pat Cummins into the squad. So there are big chances that Cummins can share his captaincy experience and lead SRH in the midway.
