James Anderson has retired from all formats of international cricket. The veteran fast bowler ended his career after winning the Lord’s Test match with the England cricket team against West Indies earlier this year. It looks like the fast bowler is now looking to try his luck in the T20 franchise arena.
While most fans thought that Anderson would move to the world of coaching or commentary after retiring from Tests, the fast bowler wants to start a new journey. Anderson said on The Final Word podcast:
“I’m pretty open to anything at the minute. Things will become clearer as the rest of the year progresses. There’s two Test tours in the winter and I’m not sure I’ll be on them in this [coaching] role.”
Assuming he makes himself available for the IPL 2025 Auction as a player, here are three teams which may target him.
1. Punjab Kings may target James Anderson
Punjab Kings play some of their home matches at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala, where the pitch helps the swing bowlers sometimes. A player like Anderson can prove to be an asset to the Kings in those conditions. Overall, he can be a fantastic addition to the squad as well because of the experience he has.
2. Royal Challengers Bengaluru
Many fans would love to see the pairing of Virat Kohli and James Anderson in an IPL franchise. Anderson and Kohli had an epic rivalry in Test cricket. RCB are a team who love to sign the big names of game, and someone like Anderson can benefit the Bengaluru-based franchise a lot in the IPL.
3. Rajasthan Royals
Jos Buttler is one of the most important names present in the Rajasthan Royals squad. The Royals also play some of their home games in Guwahati, where batting against pacers is not that easy. Hence, RR could be in the race to sign Anderson as well, just like they signed Joe Root in IPL and then in SA20 for Paarl Royals.
