IPL 2025 Mega Auction will take place in the coming weeks. The BCCI has allowed a maximum of six retentions per franchise before the auction. While teams like Kolkata Knight Riders, SunRisers Hyderabad and Mumbai Indians would have loved to have more retentions, the other teams would not have liked this decision so much.
The reason behind it is that there are several franchises, who want a complete reboot of their squad, or maybe they want only one or two players from their squad. In this listicle now, we will look at the three such franchises who may end up retaining just a solitary player from their IPL 2024 team before the IPL 2025 Mega Auction.
1. RCB may retain only Virat Kohli before IPL 2025 Mega Auction
Royal Challengers Bengaluru have one of the best batters in the world in Virat Kohli in their squad. A price of 18 crore is a bargain buy for someone like Virat, who brings so much to the table. Hence, Virat should undoubtedly be retained. Apart from him, there isn’t a player from RCB who deserves a retention price of 14 crore. Maybe Cameron Green could be an option, but it would be better if RCB tries to RTM him.
2. PBKS may retain only Shashank Singh
Punjab Kings unearthed a gem in the form of Shashank Singh last year. Since he is an uncapped player, PBKS can retain him for INR 4 crore. New coach Ricky Ponting would like to use the other 116 crore from the auction purse to form a completely new squad. The second potential retention for PBKS could be Ashutosh Sharma, who is an uncapped player as well.
3. LSG may retain only Nicholas Pooran
This might seem controversial, but there have been reports of a rift between current LSG skipper KL Rahul and the team’s owners. Also, Rahul’s batting form and captaincy have been questionable. Nicholas Pooran has been in red hot form, and it will be a big mistake if LSG let him go. Hence, he could be the only retention by the Super Giants.
