Australia’s home matches have returned to the Star Sports network in India. Three Tests of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024/25 have ended, but many fans have mentioned that they are not getting the same vibes from this series as the ones which happened in 2018/19 and 2020/21.
One of the reasons behind it could be the change in the broadcaster. Sony Sports Network telecasted India’s away matches against Australia from 2018 to 2021. The series was much more enjoyable. Plus, even when IPL moved from Sony to Star, there were similar complaints from the fans.
In this listicle now, we will look at the three things which Star Sports can learn from Sony Sports Network to make it a better experience for the fans.
1. Star Sports should hire specialist commentators instead of just going for former cricketers
One of the major mistakes which the Star network has made is signing former players as commentators even if they are not specialists in that. It is not everyone’s cup of tea to entertain the audience with words. While some former players have excelled in this role, the others commentate like they are not even interested to speak.
2. Focus on team instead of individuals
The biggest reason why cricket is more enjoyable on other networks is because the broadcaster hypes the matches as a battle between two teams. However, in Star, the team has always focused on commercials whenever they prepare the commercials for the series or tournament.
3. Avoid using too much technology
The best viewing experience comes when the experts are present together in the studio or on the ground. However, in the ongoing series, the broadcaster has used technology to take the expert from studio to ground. Also, for many shows, the broadcaster only brings in the expert via video call. Hence, it does not feel that important.
