The T20 World Cup 2024 is less than two months away. As per the rules of the mega event, the BCCI will have to announce the squad of the Indian team in May. It is unlikely that India will make a lot of changes to the team that played in the previous T20 World Cup.
The BCCI selection committee has a habit of springing a few surprises. In the past, Ravichandran Ashwin has made it to the T20 and ODI squads for mega events despite being out for a long time. Similarly, the following four underrated Indian players have a chance of making it to the T20 World Cup 2024 squad.
1. Krunal Pandya can feature in T20 World Cup 2024
India have gone with Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel for the left-arm spin option in recent ICC events. However, when the performance was needed, it did not come from the all-rounders. Hence, BCCI can think out of the box and go with Krunal Pandya this time.
Pandya has been quite economical with the ball in the IPL. Plus, he also scored a quickfire fifty on ODI debut against a quality bowling lineup of England, showing that he has good batting skills as well.
2. Sanju Samson
Sanju Samson has always missed the bus when it comes to playing ICC events for India. In the year ODI World Cup, he was playing bilateral T20Is, while in the T20 World Cup, he was getting a chance in bilateral ODIs. Samson is a power-hitter, which is why India should consider him for the wicketkeeper’s role.
3. Khaleel Ahmed
The absence of a left-arm fast bowler has hurt India in recent ICC events. Khaleel Ahmed has done a brilliant job in the powerplay for Delhi Capitals over the last few seasons. If India can manage with Jasprit Bumrah and another bowler in the death, Khaleel can be a great choice to bowl in the powerplay.
