IPL Final is one of the most watched cricket matches of the year. The Indian Premier League is the world’s grandest T20 league, and even the non-cricket fans tune in to watch the final of the tournament. The three most popular teams of the tournament are Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
One of the main reasons behind these three teams’ popularity is that they have been consistent. MI and CSK have played so many IPL Finals, and even RCB have made it to the summit clash thrice. However, there have also been seasons, where neither of the three teams qualified. Here’s a list of three such tournaments.
1. IPL Final 2022
The 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League was the first one since 2011 to feature 10 teams. Debutants Gujarat Titans surprised everyone by making it to the final under Hardik Pandya’s captaincy. GT went on to defeat Rajasthan Royals in the final at the Narendra Modi Stadium to win the trophy.
2. IPL Final 2024
Tonight the final match of the ongoing Indian Premier League edition will take place at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. Two former champions are in the summit clash. Kolkata Knight Riders will be up against Sunrisers Hyderabad, and one of the two teams will take the championship home.
3. 2014 Final
In 2014, the Kings XI Punjab made history by qualifying for the final for the first time ever. They faced the 2012 champions Kolkata Knight Riders. In a thrilling and high-scoring final, the Knight Riders beat the Kings to become two-time champions of the competition.
The Kings have been a part of all IPL seasons played after 2014 also. However, they have never been able to finish in the Top 4 of the points table of any tournament after that. Even this year, they failed to qualify for the playoffs.
