Other senior overseas players like Steve Smith, Joe Root, James Anderson and Kane Williamson did not get a contract as well. However, here’s a list of four active Indian cricketers, a majority of whose names did not even get shortlisted for the IPL 2025 Mega Auction, thereby meaning their career is all but over.

    1. Amit Mishra may have played his last IPL match

One of the most successful bowlers in Indian Premier League history, Amit Mishra did not make it to the final list of players for the mega auction. The senior leg-spinner played for the Lucknow Super Giants in 2024, and it looks like that will be his last season.

    2. Wriddhiman Saha may have played his last IPL match

It is unclear whether Wriddhiman Saha registered for the auction or not, but his name was absent from the shortlisted players. Saha had a forgettable season with the Gujarat Titans in 2024. With age not on his side, it is safe to assume that the wicketkeeper may never play in the league again.

    3. Piyush Chawla

Unlike Amit Mishra and Wriddhiman Saha, Piyush Chawla was in the final list of players. His name came up in the auction as well, but he did not receive a single bid. It looks like the franchises do not want to invest in Chawla’s services, and he may return to the commentary table soon.

    4. Harpreet Bhatia

Uncapped senior Indian cricketer Harpreet Bhatia came into the limelight after his explosive batting performances for the Punjab Kings. He was with the Kings last season as well, but the southpaw’s name was not even shortlisted for the mega auction. In a way, it signals the end of his IPL journey.
