ICC Hall of Fame is one of the biggest achievements for any cricketer. Every player who starts playing the sport professionally aims to leave his mark on the game, and in cricket, one of the top-level achievements for a retired cricketer is entering the ICC Hall of Fame.
Over the years, several greats of the game have been inducted into this elite list. Often, fans and cricket experts do not give equal recognition to Asian spin bowlers, saying that they enjoy success in home conditions because the pitches are tailor-made for them. However, not all spinners have achieved equal success in the same conditions.
So far in ICC history, four spin bowlers from Asian nations have been inducted into the Hall of Fame, and here’s a list of those four names.
1. Bishan Singh Bedi, India
Former Indian left-arm spin bowler Bishan Singh Bedi was one of the best spinners of his era. He starred in India’s wins, and the overseas batters struggled to understand his spin bowling on quite a few occasions.
2. Anil Kumble, India
Former Indian leg-spin bowler Anil Kumble achieved enormous success in Tests and ODIs. He achieved the rare feat of taking all 10 wickets in an innings while playing against Pakistan. On top of that, Kumble also scored a Test hundred in England.
3. Muttiah Muralitharan, Sri Lanka
Former Sri Lankan off-spin bowler Muttiah Muralitharan made history by becoming the first to scalp 800 wickets in Test cricket. He was also a member of the Sri Lankan squad that finished runner-up in the 2011 World Cup.
4. Abdul Qadir, Pakistan
Abdul Qadir is the first Pakistani specialist spinner inducted to the ICC Hall of Fame.
