Although the cricketers are eligible to play in multiple leagues, they have to make their decisions wisely because a lot of tournaments overlap each other in the calendar.

    There have been a lot of occasions, where the cricketers decided to skip an international series just to remain available for the leagues. Some of the players even went a step further and shortened their international career for leagues. Here’s a list of four such players.

    1. One of the best England cricketers – Ben Stokes

    England’s Test captain Ben Stokes shockingly announced retirement from ODI cricket last year. In the next few months, Stokes registered himself for the IPL Auction and joined the Chennai Super Kings team. He has reversed his ODI retirement for the World Cup now.

    2. One of the top South African cricketers – Quinton de Kock

    South African wicketkeeper Quinton de Kock has already retired from Tests. He recently announced that he will quit the ODI format after the 2023 World Cup too, meaning he will only play T10 and T20 cricket.

    3. Theunis de Bruyn

    South African batter Theunis de Bruyn called it a day on his international career before turning 30 years old. He has continued to play for Pretoria Capitals in SA20.

    4. Dwaine Pretorius

    Another South African all-rounder to appear on the list is Dwaine Pretorius. The Chennai Super Kings all-rounder announced retirement from international cricket in January 2023 and said that he wants to focus on the shorter formats only.
