Wankhede Stadium hosted a special evening, where the Indian cricket team celebrated their triumph in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024. At the end of this event, BCCI officials presented the Men in Blue with a cheque of INR 125 crore, which is the bonus prize for the entire squad.
The event started from Mumbai airport, followed by an open bus parade through the Marine Drive to the stadium. A jam-packed crowd was there to witness this unforgettable event, and here’s a list of four interesting things which fans must have missed.
1. Hardik Pandya walks in with the trophy at Wankhede Stadium
Rohit Sharma won T20 World Cup as captain, but it was Hardik Pandya, who walked down the stairs with the trophy. Perhaps, Rohit wanted Hardik to enjoy his redemption moment because the same stadium welcomed him with boos in IPL 2024.

BCCI secretary Jay Shah shook hands with all the players when they came to the stage for the final photo. However, when he shook hands with Virat Kohli, he forgot where he was and kept looking at Virat only.
3. Rohit Sharma’s parents were at the Wankhede Stadium
Indian captain Rohit Sharma brought his parents to the stadium to witness the celebration live. BCCI shared a highlights video package of whatever happened in Mumbai earlier today, and the closing frame was the one featuring the Hitman’s mother and father.

It was an electric atmosphere in Mumbai, and the fans at the Wankhede welcomed star batter Virat Kohli with loud chants of ‘Cheeku, Cheeku’. In case you didn’t know, Cheeku is the nickname of Virat given to him by MS Dhoni, and Virat had a big smile on his face when he heard those chants.
