Due to the Impact Player rule, captains can now be more flexible with their usage of bowlers. Here, we take a look at four pacers who could bowl only after the first 10 overs in the bowling innings in IPL 2024.
In the past, we have seen captains use the four overs of a pacer only after the first 10 overs. This is now easily possible in IPL 2024 for a few pacers.
1) Matheesha Pathirana
Role clarity will be important to ensure that Pathirana does well in IPL 2024. With Shardul Thakur arriving, CSK won’t have many problems in the beginning of the middle overs. Hence, Pathirana can be introduced only in the second half of the bowling innings. This will help him and the team to get the best out of the player.
2) Harshal Patel could bowl only in the second half of the bowling innings in IPL 2024
Harshal Patel is one of the pacers who could bowl only after the first 10 overs in the bowling innings in IPL 2024. Punjab Kings have a deep-pace attack comprising the likes of Arshdeep Singh, Kagiso Rabada, Sam Curran and Nathan Ellis. Harshal must be used only for the death overs and hence, he can start his game after 10 overs.
3) Mohit Sharma
Last season, as well, Mohit Sharma was introduced very late. He wants the batters to attack him and there lies his best chance to take wickets. The same strategy will likely continue for the next season, as well. Umesh Yadav and Kartik Tyagi’s arrival further makes this possible for Gujarat.
4) Nuwan Thushara could also bowl only in the second half of the bowling innings in IPL 2024
Nuwan Thushara is also one of the pacers who could bowl only after the first 10 overs in the bowling innings in IPL 2024. Bumrah, Coetzee and Madushanka could operate in the first few overs. If Mumbai do not want an extra overseas batter, they can play Nuwan Thushara. He could operate only in the latter half of the bowling innings.
