IPL Auction dynamics might sometimes not give a clear picture of some players and the game itself. Here, we take a look at four players in the Top 10 ICC T20I rankings who went unsold in IPL 2024 Auctions.
If a player is doing well at the international level, he surely must garner some attention in the IPL. However, the four-foreigner rule has made things a bit complex for some of these cricketers.

1) Phil Salt
Phil Salt is one of the players in the Top 10 ICC T20I rankings who went unsold in IPL 2024 Auctions. Last season, he played for the Delhi Capitals. Many felt that he would be retained, but he was released. Nevertheless, considering he is a solid wicket-keeper and an opener, many expected him to find a bid. However, he went unsold and this is despite him scoring a century around the time when the auctions happened.
2) Akeal Hosein is in the Top 10 ICC T20I rankings for bowlers
Akeal Hosein is a very useful all-rounder to have. While he is very economical with the ball, he can hit some big shots in the end. His performances for the West Indies have also shown the same. However, such types of bowlers are usually preferred if they are Indian in the IPL. However, Akeal did not get a chance for IPL 2024.
3) Tabraiz Shamsi
Tabraiz Shamsi is also one of the players in the Top 10 ICC T20I rankings who went unsold in IPL 2024 Auctions. Shamsi has played IPL in the past. Although he does well, sometimes, he could leak runs. Hence, he has not become very popular in the IPL. However, he can still get picked as a replacement player.
4) Reeza Hendricks is in the Top 10 ICC T20I rankings for batters
This was on the expected lines. Unless the overseas opener is of the quality of someone like David Warner or Faf du Plessis, they usually do not get sold. Also, while Reeza has done well, he still does not have a definitive year. Hence, he went unsold at the auctions.
