England all-rounder Jofra Archer has proven to be one of the worst investments for the Mumbai Indians in IPL history. Mumbai are known for signing the best talents, but they seem to have mistimed their signing of Archer because he has not been at his best in the last two years due to injuries. While Archer missed the full IPL season in 2022, he could not any impact in the few matches he played in 2023.
If Jofra Archer does not agree with Mumbai Indians’ reported offer of him playing for their every franchise in the world for an annual deal, there is a high probability of him being released from MI for IPL 2024. In that case, MI will need another explosive fast bowler to partner with Jasprit Bumrah. Here are four possible options:
1. Mohammad Amir can take the place of Jofra Archer
Mohammad Amir will reportedly get a British passport soon, and he will be eligible to play in the IPL from the next year. Hence, Amir could be a fantastic replacement for Archer. He has troubled many batters his pace and swing while playing for Pakistan.
2. Mitchell Starc can take the place of Jofra Archer
If Mitchell Starc makes himself available for IPL next year, Mumbai Indians can think of signing him. MI struck gold by signing Cameron Green last year. Perhaps, they can get in another Aussie to achieve success.
3. Matt Henry
Matt Henry has been one of the most underrated performers for the New Zealand cricket team. He can bowl express pace as well. Having played for CSK in the past, Henry has some IPL experience under his belt.
4. Dilshan Madushanka
Dilshan Madushanka is one of the most exciting talents emerging from the Sri Lankan nation. He is a left-arm pacer and was in high demand at the Lanka Premier League Auction. If he impresses in Asia Cup and World Cup, Madushanka can join MI as well.
