IPL 2024 Auction will take place soon. Ahead of the mini auction, all 10 franchises will have to decide which players they want to retain and which are the players they want to release. This decision is always tough because the players who break into the IPL are extremely talented. Still, teams have to make the calls based on form and performance.
It has been proven time and again that performance matters more than reputation in the IPL. The players who did not perform well in IPL 2023 could be released before the 2024 auction, but some players can still earn themselves another contract by performing well in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Here’s a list of four players who might be released if they flop in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2023/24.
1. Rajasthan Royals may release Devdutt Padikkal before IPL 2024 Auction
Devdutt Padikkal has not been at his best in the IPL ever since he moved from the Royal Challengers Bangalore to the Rajasthan Royals. In IPL 2023, Devdutt scored 261 runs in 11 matches at an average of 26.10 and a strike rate of 130.50. If he struggles in SMAT, he could be released soon.
2. Delhi Capitals may release Manish Pandey before IPL 2024 Auction
Manish Pandey joined the Delhi Capitals for IPL 2023. The right-handed batter scored 160 runs in 10 matches. His strike rate was below 110, while his average was less than 20. If he does not have an extraordinary SMAT tournament, he might be released soon.
3. Yash Dayal
Left-arm pacer Yash Dayal could not replicate his IPL 2022 brilliance in the 2023 season. In fact, he earned a dubious record of conceding five sixes when 29 runs were needed off the last five balls. With Shivam Mavi present in GT squad, the franchise may let go of Dayal if his recent form is not impressive.
4. Kartik Tyagi
Express fast bowler Kartik Tyagi has been with the Sunrisers Hyderabad for two seasons, but he is yet to produce a match-winning performance. Having too many options in the squad sometimes impacts the decision-making process. SRH have too many pacers in their squad, which is why they can consider letting go of Tyagi if his form is not good.
