IPL 2024 is happening right before the T20 World Cup. The mega international event will happen in June in West Indies and USA, and it goes without saying that the BCCI selection committee will consider the IPL form of the players and select some of them who are in exceptional form.
In 2021, the likes of Ishan Kishan, Rahul Chahar and Varun Chakravarthy earned a place in the Indian squad for T20 World Cup after a phenomenal performance in the Indian Premier League. Here’s a list of four such Indians who could sneak into the squad for the mega event purely based on their form in the league.
1. Dinesh Karthik has been in red-hot form in IPL
Like 2022, Dinesh Karthik has done an incredible job for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru side in the league. Karthik was reportedly going to retire after this season of the league, but if BCCI considers him for the mega event, he might extend his career.
2. Yuzvendra Chahal continues to rule in the IPL
For some reason, Yuzvendra Chahal has never played a single T20 World Cup game in his career. He has not been in the scheme of things in the T20I format of late, but judging by his form in the league, Chahal deserves a place in the Indian squad for the T20 World Cup.
3. Riyan Parag
For a long, long time, India’s middle order has been unstable. In Riyan Parag, the Indian team can have a mature batter in the middle, plus a leg-spin option in the middle. His confidence and game looks completely different in 2024. Perhaps, it is time for a surprise call-up.
4. Khaleel Ahmed
Khaleel Ahmed can be that quality left-arm pacer whom India needs in the powerplay. He is not the best bowler in the death overs, but his ability to swing the new ball makes him an asset in the powerplay.
