IPL 2023 is around the corner, and there will be a new rule in next year’s IPL season, which is called ‘Impact Player’. BCCI introduced it in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2022/23. The rule is such that each team can substitute one player from its playing XI during the pre-decided periods.
The substitute player can not only play the role of a fielder but also bat and bowl for the team. In a way, it is like the substitute of kabaddi or cricket. There were many talented players who warmed the benches in the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League, but they could be seen playing more matches now because of the Substitute Player rule.
Fans should note that the rule will reportedly allow only Indian players to replace other Indian players in the playing XI. So, here’s a list of four Indian players who will benefit.
1. Shahbaz Nadeem may get more game time in IPL 2023
Shahbaz Nadeem is one of the most experienced spin bowlers in India. However, he did not get a single opportunity to play for the Lucknow Super Giants in IPL 2022. The Impact Player rule will allow to Nadeem to come in as a substitute and bowl economical overs for his team.
2. Priyam Garg may get more game time in IPL 2023
Former India U-19 World Cup captain Priyam Garg also warmed the benches at SunRisers Hyderabad last season. With the introduction of this rule, Garg should get multiple opportunities to prove his worth.
3. Gurkeerat Singh Mann
Gurkeerat Singh Mann is a middle-order batter who can change the course of the game with his big hits, but Gujarat Titans did not give him even a single game in IPL 2022. If his team is chasing a big target in IPL 2023, Gurkeerat’s team can use him as a substitute for a bowler.
4. Jayant Yadav
Like Shahbaz Nadeem, Jayant Yadav can bowl economical overs in the middle. While defending a target on a spin-friendly surface, a bowler like Yadav can prove to be handy.
