Gujarat Titans will be keen to win the IPL 2024 trophy after narrowly missing out on their second consecutive championship win earlier today in Ahmedabad. The Titans faced off against the Chennai Super Kings in the summit clash of the season. The match went down to the wire, and in the end, the Titans lost by five wickets on the final ball.

Although Gujarat could not win the championship, it was a memorable season for them as they had some brilliant individual performances. A majority of the GT players will likely be retained for the next season, but here’s a list of four such players whom Gujarat Titans may release before IPL 2024.

    1. Gujarat Titans may not retain Dasun Shanaka for IPL 2024

Dasun Shanaka came in as a replacement for Kane Williamson in IPL 2023. Shanaka played three matches, where he scored 26 runs. While Shanaka is an experienced finisher, GT have many other players who can do his role. Plus, GT will have to choose one between Williamson and Shanaka, and they might prefer the former because of his excellent IPL record.

    2. Gujarat Titans may not retain Yash Dayal for IPL 2024

Yash Dayal earned his maiden nation call-up in 2022. The left-arm pacer got injured then, and he did not look in the best touch during the 2023 season. Dayal conceded five sixes in five balls to Rinku Singh in the 20th over. He proved to be expensive in a majority of the other matches as well.

Since the Gujarat Titans have Shivam Mavi sitting on the bench and Joshua Little performing well as a left-arm pacer, they may not retain Dayal.

    3. Darshan Nalkande

Darshan Nalkande played only one match for GT this year. It was the Qualifier 1 against CSK, where he leaked 44 runs in four overs. It will be interesting to see if GT retain him.

    4. Matthew Wade

Matthew Wade will be 36 by the time IPL 2024 starts. He has done a great job for Australia, but his IPL record is not the best. GT can free up an overseas spot by releasing Wade. They already have two great Indian wicket-keeping options in KS Bharat and Wriddhiman Saha.
