KKR may think of releasing Lockie Ferguson from their squad before the IPL 2024 mini auction. The pacer has struggled with injuries. Even in the few matches that he played for the Kolkata Knight Riders in the 2023 edition of the Indian Premier League, Ferguson could not make much of an impact with the ball.
Since the Kolkata Knight Riders paid INR 10 crore in the trade window to acquire Lockie Ferguson from the Gujarat Titans, it should not be a surprise if the Kolkata-based franchise release him. KKR may think twice before signing Lockie Ferguson even for a lower amount at the IPL 2024 Auction. Here’s a list of the four other players whom they can target.
1. KKR can target Mohammad Amir for IPL 2024
In case you didn’t know, former Pakistan pacers Shoaib Akhtar and Umar Gul played for the Kolkata Knight Riders in the inaugural IPL season. Akhtar did a brilliant job for the franchise as well. Mohammad Amir could become the next Pakistan pacer to play for KKR. He will be available for IPL 2024 because of his British passport.
2. KKR can target Gerald Coetzee for IPL 2024
Gerald Coetzee emerged as a match-winner for the Joburg Super Kings in SA20 2023. Surprisingly, CSK did not sign him at the IPL Auction or as a replacement in the 2023 season. Kolkata can take advantage of it and rope in the speedster from South Africa.
3. Dilshan Madushanka
The Kolkata Knight Riders can consider roping in a left-arm pacer to add variety to their bowling attack, which features right-arm pacers like Tim Southee, Umesh Yadav and Harshit Rana. One of the options can be Sri Lanka’s Dilshan Madushanka, who impressed against India in Asia Cup.
4. George Garton
George Garton has played in a lot of T20 leagues in his career. The left-arm pacer even represented the Royal Challengers Bangalore in a few matches. Since he is a wicket-taking bowler, KKR can think of offering him a deal.
