Punjab Kings are likely to release Kagiso Rabada before the IPL 2024 Auction. The South African speedster, who was a big match-winner for the Delhi Capitals for multiple seasons, has failed to make much of an impact while playing for the Kings in the Indian Premier League.
Also, Kagiso Rabada was unavailable for the first few matches in IPL 2023, which made the team combination different. Punjab Kings will also likely retain Sam Curran for IPL 2024. Hence, they may let go of Rabada. In case they leave the South African fast bowler, here’s a list of four players whom they can target.
1. Punjab Kings can target Mohammad Amir for IPL 2024
Pakistan’s left-arm fast bowler Mohammad Amir is likely to make his debut in IPL 2024. The left-arm fast bowler will become a British citizen soon. If he gets the British passport, he will be eligible to play in IPL. The conditions in Mohali will suit him, which is why the Punjab Kings may go for him.
2. Punjab Kings can target Mujeeb ur Rahman for IPL 2024
It is not necessary that the Kings target a fast bowler for a fast bowler. They can try for a mystery spinner as well. Afghanistan’s Mujeeb ur Rahman, who has previously played for the franchise, can come back to Punjab if he has a decent outing in the 2023 Cricket World Cup.
3. Andrew Tye
Australian fast bowler Andrew Tye won the Purple Cap award when playing for the Punjab Kings team in the 2018 edition of the Indian Premier League. Tye could return to the franchise in 2024 because he is a wicket-taking bowler.
4. Mitchell Starc
If Mitchell Starc makes himself available for the IPL 2024, the Kings should think of signing him. They can form one of the most dangerous bowling attacks in IPL history, with three destructive left-arm pacers, namely Mitchell Starc, Arshdeep Singh and Sam Curran.
